Innovation with Java

altIn the summer of 2008 a developing team was put together for the Eyefreight project. At that moment I had just got my Bachelor’s degree and was hired as a junior team member. It was an experienced team and all developing aspects were on the agenda, thus enabling me to acquire valuable practical experience in a relatively short period of time.

The Eyefreight challenge is the development of a web application that makes available knowledge and skills with regard to the planning and optimization of complex transportation flows and their related administrative processes. In order to test the already available knowhow of logistics service provision within our team, we have had our design discussed in a series of workshops with real-life experts.

The active contribution of developers, including myself, and an interaction specialist to the discussion, resulted in the necessary ‘feeling’ for the end users.

For the realization of Eyefreight we use Java technology and the Eclipse IDE. We use the Visual Paradigm tool to build the object model and ERD, with which we generate the entire persistence layer. The frameworks Hibernate, JSP, JSF and JBoss RichFaces enabled our team to set up this project in a relatively short period.

My role in Eyefreight is the implementation of the application, with a specific focus on the user interaction. At the moment we prepare ourselves for an implementation in Italy. Thus the project keeps offering challenges, which make me come to work with a smile on my face. It looks as if everybody at Itude has made his/her work out of his/her hobby. Or the other way around. This was one of my impressions when I first came into contact with Itude and now it applies to me as well.
